Commercial Fishing Vessel ID Numbers — 10″ / 18″ NOAA HMS

• Official vessel number: the vessel's official number issued by the U.S. Coast Guard or appropriate state agency.
• Placement: port side of the deckhouse or hull, starboard side of the deckhouse or hull, and an appropriate weather deck so the number is visible from enforcement vessels and aircraft.
• More than 25 ft through 65 ft: block Arabic numerals at least 10 inches high.
• Over 65 ft: block Arabic numerals at least 18 inches high.
• Color: the marking must contrast with the vessel background.
• Condition: markings must remain clearly legible, in good repair, and unobstructed by rigging, fishing gear, or other material.

Reflective vinyl is not required by the cited HMS vessel-identification sections. The federal rule requires legibility, contrasting color, proper size, placement, and permanent/secure marking; it does not specify reflective material. Standard Genuine 3M cast vinyl is the default for this product. Reflective material can be quoted separately if the operator or project specification calls for it.
